Shaved steak, sautéed onions, and melted cheese fill this low point hamburger bun.
And let me tell you, it’s delicious. It’s also easy to make, which I love.
It’s perfect for lunch or dinner!
The Ingredients
The beef shaved steak came from Kroger. It was $5.99 for 14 ounces. I only used 2 ounces per sandwich, which was 3 points.
For the cheese, I bought part-skim mozzarella cheese slices. It was 2 points for one slice of cheese.
I wanted to get a hamburger bun that was only 2-3 points. I bought the Kroger Carbmaster Hamburger Buns which are 3 points each.
The last thing I bought was a yellow onion. The sautéed onions add another level of flavor to the sandwich.

How to Make a Shaved Steak Sandwich
Cut the onion into slices. How much you use really depends on your personal preference.
Spray a nonstick frying pan with cooking spray and add the onions. Sautéed onions usually take about 10 minutes. I usually let mine cook for about 7 minutes because I like them to have a little bit of a crunch.
Using a food scale I weighed 2 ounces of the shaved steak.
Season the steak with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
Push the onions to the side and add the shaved steak. It only takes a minute or two to cook the shaved steak.
Put the hamburger bun on a baking sheet. Top the bottom bun with the shaved steak, followed by the sautéed onions, then a slice of cheese.
Leave the hamburger bun open and place under the broiler. This will toast the top bun and melt the cheese.
I ate my sandwich as is. Feel free to add your favorite condiment, just make sure to add any additional points.
