You don’t need a fancy espresso machine or syrups to make this recipe. I did use a handheld milk frother that I bought on Amazon for only $10.99.
This is the frother I bought:

It’s a great little gadget and it even comes with batteries. You could also use a whisk or blender instead.
Here’s what you need to make a Skinny Peppermint Mocha:
- Strong coffee or espresso
- Fat free skim milk
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
- Peppermint extract
- Sweetener of choice
Just a handful of ingredients, most of which I always have on hand.
The Startbucks version uses shots of espresso. Since I don’t have an espresso machine I made my coffee extra strong.
If you have a drip coffee maker you can increase the amount of grounds you usually use without increasing the amount of water.
With a Keurig machine you can brew two K-cups at the lowest water setting. This will give you a stronger tasting coffee.
While my coffee was brewing I got the rest of my ingredients ready. I added the milk, cocoa powder, sweetener and peppermint extract to a saucepan and cooked over medium high heat.
Once the cocoa powder was dissolved and the liquid was heated through I turned the heat off and used my handheld milk frother until it was foamy.
Then I added my coffee to it and it was ready to drink!
