I baked my Hush Puppies in a mini muffin pan. It was perfect to keep them in their Hush Puppy shape.
You don’t need mini muffin cups, I just used nonstick cooking spray and they popped right out after baking.
Here’s what you need to make Baked Hush Puppies:
- All purpose flour
- Yellow corn meal
- Sugar
- Baking powder
- Salt and pepper
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Old Bay Seasoning
- Egg
- Low fat buttermilk
I started by mixing the dry ingredients in a medium bowl. That included the flour, corn meal, sugar, baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and Old Bay Seasoning.
Next I added the egg and buttermilk to the dry ingredients and mixed it all together.
Using a small cookie scoop I divided the mixture into 20 of the mini muffin pan spots.
You bake them for 15 minutes at 425 degrees, once they’re nice and golden brown.
It’s such a simple recipe! Plus it’s a healthier way to enjoy Hush Puppies.
Another way you can enjoy these Hush Puppies is with chili. Baked Hush Puppies remind me of cornbread which is also great with chili.
