Sausage and Peppers (Ten Dollar Meal)

This recipe is budget friendly, low cab, Weight Watchers friendly, and perfect for summer.

It only costs $9.15 to make this recipe that feeds 4 people. Now that’s a deal!

The Ingredients

I did all of my shopping for this recipe at Kroger.

Sausage: I bought Simple Truth chicken sausage for $4.99. I wanted the Italian chicken sausage but they were out of it. Instead, I bought spinach gruyere chicken sausage.

All of the points in this recipe come from the sausage.

Red bell pepper: This is my favorite bell pepper. You can use whatever colors you prefer.

It was $1.59 for the red bell pepper.

Yellow bell pepper: I spent $1.79 on the yellow bell pepper.

Onion: I added an onion to give the dish even more flavor. It was only $.78.

The total spent was $9.15.

Some of the “pantry staples” I used for this recipe included cooking spray and seasonings.

I used garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

There was a ton of flavor in my chicken sausage so I didn’t want to overdo it.

How to Make Sausage and Peppers

I started by slicing the bell peppers and onions. I sprayed my pan with cooking spray and added the veggies.

While that was cooking I cut up the sausage.

Once the peppers were tender/crisp I added the chicken sausage to the pan. At this time I added the garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

The sausage I bought was fully cooked so I just needed to heat it through.

That’s all there is to it! Everything cooks in one pan so it’s also easy to clean up.

Serving Suggestions

Since this recipe is only 6 points per serving it gives you a little wiggle room to add points.

You can add carbs to this recipe by serving the sausage and peppers on a low point bun.

Adding a side of rice is another way to add a carb.

If you choose to keep it low carb you can serve it with a low point salad.
