Lightened-Up Snowman Cheese Ball

The holiday season is a wonderful opportunity to experiment with fun and festive recipes, and the Snowman Cheese Ball fits the bill perfectly.

This appetizer is not only visually appealing but also healthier, thanks to some smart ingredient swaps.

By using reduced-fat cream cheese and part-skim mozzarella, this dish allows you to indulge without the added guilt.

It’s an excellent choice for holiday parties, family gatherings, or any festive occasion.

The Ingredients

Reduced-Fat Cream Cheese: This is a great way to lighten up the cheese ball without changing the flavor. Your guests will never know it’s not full fat cream cheese.

Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese: Using this cheese creates the snow effect on the outside of the snowman.

Reduced-Fat Mexican Cheese: I added this to the cream cheese for extra flavor. Using reduced-fat cheese helps to lower the total points.

Ranch Seasoning: This helps to add a ton of flavor to the cheese ball.

Green Onions: This adds a fresh, mild onion flavor and crisp texture.

Baby Carrot: I used a baby carrot for the snowman’s nose.

Whole Peppercorns: These were used to make the snowman’s eyes, mouth, and buttons.

How to Make a Snowman Cheese Ball

The reduced-fat cream cheese must be at room temperature to blend all ingredients.

Place the cream cheese in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Add the shredded Mexican cheese, ranch seasoning, and green onions.

Thoroughly mix the ingredients. Divide the mixture into two portions, one a little larger for the body and the second a little smaller for the head.

Place one portion in the center of some plastic wrap. Wrap it up and shape it into a ball. Repeat with the second cream cheese portion.

Refrigerate the cream cheese balls for at least one hour.

Put the shredded mozzarella cheese on a plate or baking dish. Unwrap the large cream cheese ball and roll it through the cheese.

Place the cheese-covered ball on your serving plate.

Insert two toothpicks in the center of the large cream cheese ball. This will help the head stay in place.

Unwrap the smaller cream cheese ball and roll it through the mozzarella cheese. Place the ball onto the body and through the toothpicks.

Decorate your snowman by inserting whole peppercorns to create the eyes, mouth, and buttons. Use a baby carrot for the nose, positioning it in the center of the head ball.

Refrigerate the snowman until you are ready to serve it.

Serving Suggestions

When it comes to serving your Snowman Cheese Ball, presentation is key to making it a standout appetizer at your holiday gathering. Here are some creative and appealing ways to serve this festive treat:

– With Vegetables: Arrange a colorful assortment of fresh vegetables around your cheese ball. Carrot sticks, bell pepper slices, cucumber rounds, and cherry tomatoes not only add vibrant color but also offer a healthy and crunchy contrast to the creamy cheese.

– With Crackers: Provide a variety of crackers to accompany the cheese ball. Options like whole grain, multi-seed, and lightly salted crackers will offer different textures and flavors, allowing your guests to choose their preferred combination.

– On a Festive Platter: Use a holiday-themed serving platter to present your Snowman Cheese Ball. Scatter some cranberries, rosemary sprigs, or holly leaves around the base of the snowman for a splash of color and a festive touch that ties into the holiday spirit.

– With Breadsticks or Pretzel Sticks: For a fun and unique twist, serve your cheese ball with breadsticks or pretzel sticks. These options are easy to handle and provide a satisfying crunch that pairs well with the creamy cheese.

– On a Charcuterie Board: Incorporate the Snowman Cheese Ball into a larger charcuterie board. Surround it with an array of cured meats, assorted cheeses, nuts, dried fruits, and pickles. This creates a visually stunning spread that offers a variety of flavors and textures for your guests to enjoy.
