Salisbury Steak is definitely American comfort food!
Unlike what the name suggests, they’re actually made with ground beef, not steak.
It’s served with a delicious brown gravy that goes great with mashed potatoes, brown rice or noodles.

My version is lightened up, so it’s healthier than the old tv dinners.

To keep this recipe low in points I used Laura’s Lean Ground Beef, which is 96% lean ground beef.
It’s only 12 points for one pound vs. 24 points for one pound of 85% lean ground beef. That’s a big difference!
How to make Weight Watchers friendly Salisbury Steak:
In a large bowl add the ground beef, seasoned breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, egg, ketchup, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt and black pepper.
Mix the ingredients together then form four beef patties. I make them in an oval shape to resemble a steak.
Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place patties in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side.
Remove the patties from the pan and set them aside.
Add the onions to the large skillet. I cooked them right in the leftover beef grease, there wasn’t much because the beef was so lean.
Let the onions cook for 5 minutes until they’re soft. Add in the beef broth (reserve a couple of tablespoons), Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
In a small bowl mix together the cornstarch and a couple tablespoons of beef broth.
Once the broth starts to simmer, stir in the cornstarch mixture.
Let the mixture simmer for about 4 minutes once it is slightly thickened. Place the patties back in the pan and cook until they heat through.
I love serving Salisbury Steak with mashed potatoes but if I’m trying to keep it light I will just add a vegetable.
