The Ingredients

Lean Roast Beef: Lean roast beef provides protein, which helps support muscle health and keeps you feeling satisfied after a meal.

Choosing top round or eye of round roast beef can help reduce the amount of fat while still delivering that classic beef flavor. Look for a lean deli option and compare nutrition labels, especially the sodium content.

Hawaiian Rolls: Slider rolls provide carbohydrates, which are an important source of energy. Their soft texture and slightly sweet flavor complement the savory roast beef and cheese.

Choosing smaller rolls also makes it easy to portion the sliders.

Reduced-Fat Cheese: Cheese provides protein and calcium, which support muscle function and bone health.

Reduced-fat cheese gives these sliders a creamy, savory layer while helping limit the fat content compared with regular cheese.

Onion: Onions add natural sweetness and savory flavor as they cook. They’re also a source of vitamin C and contain beneficial plant compounds. Slowly cooking the onions helps bring out their sweetness without needing extra sugar.

Light Butter: Light butter helps create a golden, flavorful topping for the slider rolls. Using a measured amount lets you enjoy that buttery taste while keeping the added fat in check.

Worcestershire Sauce: Worcestershire sauce adds savory, tangy depth to the au jus.

Beef Broth: Beef broth forms the base of the dipping sauce, adding moisture and savory flavor without the need for a heavy gravy.

Low-sodium beef broth is a useful choice because the roast beef, cheese, and Worcestershire sauce can already contain significant sodium.

Seasonings: Garlic powder, onion powder, and dried parsley add flavor to the butter topping and au jus without requiring extra butter or salt. Garlic and onion powders provide concentrated savory flavor, while parsley adds a mild herbal note.

Cornstarch: Cornstarch is optional and can be mixed with cold water to thicken the au jus slightly. Only a small amount is needed, and it helps create a dipping sauce that clings nicely to the roast beef and rolls.

How to Make French Dip Sliders

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook for 6–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and lightly golden.

Slice the slider rolls horizontally without separating the individual rolls. Place the bottom half in a baking dish. Layer on the roast beef, cooked onions, and cheese. Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese.

Mix the melted light butter, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, parsley, and onion powder. Brush evenly over the tops of the rolls.

Cover loosely with foil and bake for 10 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 5–8 minutes, until the cheese has melted and the tops are lightly golden.

While the sliders bake, combine the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder in a saucepan.

Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 5 minutes. If you prefer a slightly thicker dip, stir in the cornstarch slurry and simmer until slightly thickened.

Let the sliders rest for 2–3 minutes, cut apart, and serve warm with individual cups of au jus for dipping.
