Creamy Taco Dip

June 3, 2024 by keepingonpoint Leave a Comment

The inspiration for this dip comes from my favorite part of seven layer dip – the sour cream and taco seasoning.

The seven layer dip recipe my Mom gave me used sour cream, mayonnaise, and taco seasoning for that layer.

I’ve also seen people use sour cream, cream cheese, and taco seasoning.

Either way, it’s delicious.

The Ingredients

Fat Free Sour Cream: Instead of regular sour cream I used fat-free to save points. One cup was only 5 points.

Reduced Fat Cream Cheese: This helped add to the creaminess of the dip. I only used 2 ounces which was 6 points.

Taco Seasoning: You can use store bought or make your own taco seasoning. You need 1 tablespoon.

This is everything I used:

It only cost $5.18 to make this dip. Using store bought brands helped to keep the price low.

  • Fat free sour cream – $2.19
  • Reduced fat cream cheese – $1.99
  • Taco seasoning – $1.00

How to Make Creamy Taco Dip

This dip is very easy to make. The most important thing is to make sure the cream cheese is room temperature.

If the cream cheese isn’t softened it won’t blend properly.

Add the fat free sour cream, reduced fat cream cheese, and taco seasoning to a mixing bowl.

Use a hand-held mixer to combine the ingredients. I did it on medium-high speed for 1 minute.

Transfer the dip to a serving dish or bowl and add your favorite toppings.

You can serve this dip with tortilla chips or you can bake your own to save points.

Topping Suggestions

Since the dip itself is only 2 points per serving I didn’t want to use toppings that would add a lot of points.

I used 1 tablespoon of reduced-fat Mexican cheese which was only 1 point. I mainly used it to make it look tasty.

Tomatoes and green onion helped to add a pop of color. They also taste great.

More zero point toppings include:

  • Cilantro
  • Red onion
  • Jalapeno
