Cheese Tortellini Skewers

If you’re on the hunt for an appetizer that’s both simple to prepare and guaranteed to satisfy a crowd, look no further than Cheese Tortellini Skewers.

These vibrant and flavorful bites combine the tastes of fresh tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, pepperoni, and cheese tortellini marinated in Italian dressing.

To make these delicious Cheese Tortellini Skewers, you’ll need a few fresh and simple ingredients. Each component brings its own unique flavor and texture, ensuring each bite is full of flavor.

The Ingredients

Cheese Tortellini: These pasta pockets are filled with cheesy goodness. They offer a satisfying chewiness that pairs perfectly with the other ingredients.

Cook the tortellini according to the package instructions, then allow them to cool before marinating.

Cherry Tomatoes: These vibrant and juicy tomatoes add a burst of freshness and a pop of color to each skewer.

They also provide a slightly sweet contrast to the savory elements.

Mozzarella Cheese: I bought part-skim mozzarella slices to keep it low in points. I cut the slices into small, bite-sized pieces and added two to each skewer.

Fresh Basil: This aromatic herb adds a layer of freshness that ties all the flavors together. Use whole basil leaves, folding them if necessary to fit neatly on the skewer.

Turkey Pepperoni: Offering a savory and slightly spicy kick, turkey pepperoni enhances the overall taste profile of the skewers.

It’s a lighter alternative to traditional pepperoni but still packs plenty of flavor.

How to Make Cheese Tortellini Skewers

Cook the cheese tortellini according to the directions on the package, drain and let cool.

Once the tortellini is cooled, add it to a small bowl and pour in 1/2 cup of light Italian dressing. Mix, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight.

Drain the cheese tortellini and discard the Italian dressing.

Get the rest of the ingredients ready. Wash the cherry tomatoes, break off 20 basil leaves, cut the mozzarella cheese, and put 40 turkey pepperoni in a small bowl.

I bought 4-inch bamboo skewers from Amazon. They are sharp on one end which makes assembling the skewer easy.

Place the tomato onto the skewer first. Its firm texture will provide a stable base for the rest of the ingredients.

Add the mozzarella cheese. It’s creamy and will contrast well with the cherry tomato.

Follow with a basil leaf. Fold a fresh basil leaf, if necessary, and thread it onto the skewer.

Next, add two slices of turkey pepperoni followed by one cheese tortellini.

These skewers will be a hit at any event!

Serving Suggestions

To make your Cheese Tortellini Skewers stand out, focus on an attractive and functional presentation.

Consider placing the skewers in a circular pattern on a large platter. This arrangement is not only eye-catching but also makes it easy for guests to pick up the skewers without disturbing the entire display.

Another option is to use a tiered serving tray, which adds height and dimension to your appetizer spread, creating a more dynamic look.

In addition to the visual presentation, think about pairing the skewers with complementary sauces.

A side of light Italian dressing or pesto can enhance the flavors of the ingredients, offering an additional layer of taste that your guests will appreciate.

You can place these sauces in small dipping bowls around the platter, ensuring that everyone has easy access.

If you’re hosting an outdoor event or picnic, consider placing the skewers in individual serving cups.

This makes them portable and convenient for guests to carry around while mingling. It’s a practical solution that also keeps the skewers fresh and intact.

For an extra touch of elegance, garnish the platter with fresh basil leaves or a sprinkle of freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

These small details can elevate the overall presentation, making your Cheese Tortellini Skewers a highlight of your appetizer table.

Lastly, be mindful of portion sizes. If you’re serving a large crowd, prepare extra skewers to ensure there’s enough for everyone. Arrange them in batches, replenishing the platter as needed to maintain a fresh and abundant look.
