These Easy Meat Hand Pies are perfect on a cold winter day!
We’re talking straight up comfort food!
If you’re a meat and potatoes kind of person you will probably love these hand pies.
Each one is 7 points for purple, 8 points for blue and green. It may seem a little high in points but they are very filling.
To make these hand pies a little easier I used pre-made biscuits. I used Pillsbury Grands Homestyle Biscuits.
They’re larger biscuits so they’re 6 points each.
You’re going to roll out each biscuit with a rolling pin.
You want to roll it out to 1/8″ thick. Do that with all 8 biscuits.
The filling is going to be flat iron steak, Yukon gold potatoes, onions and carrots.
For the steak and potatoes you want to cut them into about 1/4 inch pieces. Cut the onions and carrots a little smaller than that.
I added 1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil to a pan and cooked the potatoes, carrots and onions for about 4 minutes.
You want them to be mostly cooked because they will only be in the oven for about 10 minutes.
After the 4 minutes was up I pushed the potato mixture to the side and added the flat iron steak. I added garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper then cooked the steak for about 2 minutes, until most of the pink was gone. You definitely don’t want to overcook the steak.
I added 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce and stirred together the steak and potatoes. Then I shut the heat off and let the mixture cool for a minute.
Next you want to add the filling to the pie dough. I put a couple of spoonful’s on one side of each pie. Then I folded the dough over and used a fork to seal the edges.
Place the pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. I used a pastry brush to brush on egg wash for each pie.
All that’s left to do is bake them!
Bake the hand pies 10-14 minutes, until they are a nice golden color.
Yield: 8 pies (7 points each for blue and purple, 8 points for green)
- 8 Pillsbury Grands Homestyle Biscuits
- 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
- 10 oz. Yukon gold potatoes
- 1/2 carrot
- 2 tablespoons onion, chopped
- 6 oz. flat iron steak
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion power
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 egg plus 1 tablespoon water whisked together
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Use a rolling pin to roll out each biscuit to 1/8" thickness.
Peel the potatoes and cut them into 1/4" pieces. Peel the carrot and cut into smaller pieces.
Add the extra virgin olive oil to a heated pan. Add the potatoes, carrots and onion. Cook for 4 minutes.
While that's cooking cut the flat iron steak into 1/4" pieces.
Move the potato mixture to the side and add the steak. Season the steak and potatoes with garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Cook until the steak is no longer pink, about 2 minutes.
Add the Worcestershire sauce and mix the steak and potatoes together. Turn off the heat and let cool for a minute.
Add a couple of spoonful's of the filling to one side of the pie dough. Fold the pie dough over and use a fork to seal it shut. Add the pie to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat with the rest of the ingredients.
Use a pastry brush to put egg wash on each pie.
Bake 10-14 minutes, until each pie is golden.
