Biscuits and gravy is a perfect weekend breakfast! This recipe is delicious, but also quick and easy.

A typical recipe for biscuits and gravy probably isn’t the healthiest. There’s butter and regular sausage…just to name a few ingredients.
My version is lightened up using turkey sausage and eliminating the butter. But it still has all of the flavor.
For the biscuits I used Heart Smart Bisquick and skim milk. They are super easy to make! Just mix the ingredients together and the biscuit batter is ready.
You can just break up the batter into four pieces and add to an ungreased baking sheet or you can roll it out and use a circle cutout to make biscuits. All of the directions are on the Heart Smart Bisquick box.

While the biscuits were baking I got started on my sausage gravy.
I used Jimmy Dean fully cooked turkey sausage links. They are packed full of flavor and taste just like regular sausage. I cut each link lengthwise four times, then cut it into small pieces.
For the gravy I used 1/4 cup AP flour and 2 cups of skim milk. I added the flour to a medium pan and slowly whisked in the skim milk.

Make sure you add the milk slowly to avoid the flour clumping together.
I brought the mixture to a simmer while occasionally whisking, then I added the sausage and seasonings.
I let the mixture cook at a low simmer for about 10 minutes. The longer you cook it the thicker the gravy will be.
Each serving is 1 biscuit and about 1/2 cup of the sausage gravy for 9 Freestyle points. That’s a little higher in points than meals I usually make, but it’s biscuits and gravy! I lightened it up, but I also didn’t want to sacrifice any of the flavor. Plus, it is a very filling meal.
