Baked Ziti with Meat Sauce

Ingredients

  • 10 oz. uncooked ziti
  • 1 lb. 96% lean ground beef
  • 1/2 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 29 oz. tomato sauce
  • 15 oz. crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3/4 cup part-skim mozzarella cheese, shredded

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Bring a pot of water to a boil, cook and drain the ziti according to the directions on the package.
  • Add the ground beef to a pan. Break it up into small pieces then add the onion and garlic. Drain any grease.
  • Stir the tomato paste in with the ground beef. Pour in the tomato sauce and crushed tomatoes.
  • Season the sauce with Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a boil, cover, reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the cooked pasta then pour the mixture into the casserole dish. Top it with the part-skim mozzarella cheese. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
